Former KTN News investigative journalist Dennis Onsarigo, who was serving as Nyamira County Chief of Staff has resigned, citing frustrations and sabotage.
Onsarigo became famous during his tenure at KTN, during a crime series known as ‘Case Files’.
In his resignation leeter, Onsarigo cited sabotage and frustrations from senior county employees who made it extremely difficult for him to perform his duties.
“It is with a heavy heart that I render my resignation from the position of Chief of Staff of the Governor Nyamira county. Serving in this capacity has been a privilege, and it is not without considerable introspection and disappointment that I make this decision,” Onsarigo said in a letter dated January 10.
He also explained that he made several attempts to meet with the county governor to address the challenges but he was not given a chance.

“As you may be aware, I made several attempts, more than six times, to seek an audience with you to discuss an elaborate plan on how best the office of the chief of staff would function in the execution of your mandate while supporting other departments; unfortunately, this did not materialise,” he stated.
The former KTN News journalist explained that at some point, some senior county staff embarrassed the county governor by forcing him for a very long time before his official car was fueled.
“The plan to refurbish the office of the governor and build a modern toilet to save us from embarrassing episodes of panic when we have many visitors paying us a visit was also not a possibility. The washrooms’ renovation has failed to capture the most essential part of what constitutes a functioning washroom: running water and toiletries,” he added.
Onsarigo also stated that he was not allowed to meet the governor and discuss with him about residents lacking trust in his office, due to allegations of misusing public funds.

“This widely held view that the donor funded projects monies / single sourcing of contracts among other lucrative projects are avenues to divert public funds have been of grave concern to me and a chance to dispel these baseless allegations would have been possible if you had given me the much -sought audience for the last one year,” he states.
Onsarigo was appointed Chief of Staff by Nyamira Governor Amos Nyaribo in October 2022 after serving at Raila Odinga’s Azimio presidential campaigns secretariat during the August 2022 elections.
He also served as the Director of Communications in Taita Taveta County where he played a key role in linking with the Council of Governors and national government.
