There is no vodka in Kenya, says Mututho

Former NACADA chair John Mututho has claimed that there is no vodka in Kenya.

Speaking during an interview with TV47 on February 7, 2024 Mututho said companies that have been claiming they make vodka, were lying to Kenyans.

”There is no vodka in kenya, what you have been drinking is not vodka” said John Mututho.

He added that if people consume alcohol in the right manner cases of deaths would reduce.

The former NACADA boss also stated that he is capable of eliminating drugs in Kenya within 6 months.

Mututho alleged that he can help in the fight against alcoholism if called upon by the government, adding that he can offer the services without expecting any salary.

He made the remarks after 13 people in Kangai village, Kirinyaga county died while others lost eyesight after consuming illicit brew

The illegal liquor is believed to have contained ethanol, according to the symptoms of the victims.

There has been rising cases of illegal alcohol consumption in kenya among the youths .

He alleged that residents of Mount Kenya for the past 20 years have been drinking poison not alcohol.

He advised people from Mount Kenya to keep up with the tradition of making and consuming the original traditional beer ‘muratina’.

According to statistics conducted by Nacada on drugs abuse, about 153,846 Kenyan youth aged 15-24 years are addicted to alcohol
