Former Principal Secretary (PS) for Sports, Eng. Peter Tum, has extended his appreciation to President William Ruto following his nomination as Kenya’s Ambassador to Kinshasa, Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).

Tum’s reassignment was announced in Executive Order No. 1 of 2025, marking a significant transition from his role in the Ministry of Sports to the diplomatic arena.

Tum’s Message of Appreciation to President Ruto

In a statement, Tum expressed gratitude for the trust placed in him, acknowledging the President’s confidence in his leadership abilities.

“I sincerely thank His Excellency President William Ruto for the trust and confidence placed in me, first as Principal Secretary and now as Kenya’s Ambassador nominee to Kinshasa, DRC,” he said.

Reflections on His Tenure in the Ministry of Sports

Reflecting on his time at the Ministry of Sports, Tum highlighted efforts to revitalize the sports sector and create opportunities for Kenyan athletes.

“It has been a great honor to serve in the Ministry of Sports, working towards reviving our sports ecosystem and advancing the agenda of identifying, nurturing, and monetizing talent,” he noted.

He emphasized the importance of sustained efforts to elevate Kenya’s sports industry and ensure continued progress.

Support for Successor Elijah Mwangi

As he prepares for his new diplomatic assignment, Tum extended his best wishes to his successor, Mr. Elijah Mwangi, urging him to build on the foundation already laid.

“The journey to restore Kenyan sports to its rightful place must continue, and I have no doubt that the foundation we have laid will be strengthened even further,” he stated.

Commitment to Serving Kenya in His New Role

Tum reaffirmed his dedication to serving Kenya, promising to bring the same passion and commitment to his new role in Kinshasa.

“I remain dedicated to serving our great nation with the same passion and commitment. Thank you once again, Your Excellency,” he concluded.
