Cases involving four former governors are coming up in different courts in the country this week.
Okoth Obado (Migori), Evans Kidero (Nairobi), Sospeter Ojaamong (Busia) and Ferdinand Waititu (Kiambu) are accused by the State (EACC and ODPP) of orchestrating corruption when they were county bosses.
Obado alongside his children, for instance, have been charged with abuse of office, conspiracy to commit an economic crime, money laundering and unlawful acquisition of public property.
Okoth Obado
The allegations relate to the misappropriation of public funds belonging to the county by Obado together with his children amounting to KSh73.4 million.
The case will be heard at the Milimani Anti-Corruption Court from Tuesday through Thursday (19th, 20th and 21st March) this week.
Evans Kidero
In the case involving Kidero and 13 others, the State is seeking to recover KSh58 million that was allegedly embezzled by the suspects from Nairobi County Government.
The case will be heard at the Milimani Anti-Corruption Court on Tuesday, March 19.
Ferdinand Waititu
Waititu and 12 others were charged with conflict of interest, abuse of office and dealing with suspect property.
The allegations relate to the former governor’s acquired private interest in the KSh25.6 million paid to Testimony Enterprises Limited for contracts they were awarded during Waititu’s tenure as governor.
The case will come up at the Milimani Anti-Corruption Court from 19th-21st March 2024.
Sospeter Ojaamong
For Ojaamong, he has been charged — alongside others –with abuse of office and conspiracy to commit an economic crime.
The charges relate to the irregular procurement of a solid waste management feasibility project worth KSh8 million from Madam R Enterprises by Busia County Government.
The case will be heard at the Milimani Anti-Corruption Case on Wednesday, March 20.
