Four killed in early morning collision along Northern Bypass near Ruiru

A fatal road accident occurred along the Northern Bypass near Membley Bridge in Ruiru, Kiambu County, in the early hours of Saturday, April 19, 2025, claiming the lives of four individuals.

The collision, reported at 03:42 hours, involved a Suzuki Wagon (KDR 756K) and a trailer (KBU 265W/ZC2624), according to officials at the Kiambu County Ruiru Traffic Base.

Details of the collision
Preliminary reports indicate the trailer, driven by Peter Wachira, was en route from Kahawa West toward Membley Roundabout when it was struck from the rear by the Suzuki Wagon. The impact killed all four occupants of the Suzuki instantly. The deceased include the driver, Dionisious Njau Githinji, passenger Naomi Wambui, and two others yet to be identified.

Response and investigation
Bodies were moved to Thika General Kago Mortuary for preservation and postmortem. Authorities confirmed the road was tarmacked and weather conditions were calm at the time. “The scene was documented procedurally, and investigations are ongoing to establish the cause of the collision,” a police report stated.

The incident adds to growing concerns over road safety in the area. Ruiru and nearby sections of Thika Road have witnessed multiple fatal crashes in recent months, including a November 2024 collision where a car rammed a footbridge and a December 2024 school bus accident that killed three pupils.

Ongoing Challenges
While the Northern Bypass is a critical artery for Nairobi-bound traffic, recurring accidents highlight risks linked to speeding, driver error, and vehicle maintenance. Authorities urge motorists to adhere to traffic rules as investigations into this latest tragedy continue.

The identities of the two remaining victims will be released once next of kin are notified. Further updates will follow as the probe progresses.
