Four pedestrians killed after lorry loses control in Budalangi

In yet another tragic road accident, four people in Budalangi, Busia County died on Tuesday, December 26 after a lorry hit them.

According to a police report, the unfortunate occurrence happened at around 6:30 am on Tuesday at Roxy area along Bumala-Port Victoria road.

The driver of an Isuzu Tipper under registration number KCZ 351N was heading towards Port Victoria when he lost control and swerved to his right.

In that moment, he knocked down five pedestrians walking along that side. Unfortunately, four of them died shortly afterwards due to the impact.

Two of them were females named Leah Elizah Madiang’i (22) and Sharon Akello Ondiang’a (21). Two more who perished in the accident are males who are yet to be positively identified.

One survivor, Esther Madiangi, sustained serious injuries and was rushed Port Victoria sub county hospital and later transferred to Busia General Hospital for specialised treatment.

Police officers visited and processed the scene before transferring the bodies to Port Victoria mortuary awaiting postmortem.

The driver of the lorry allegedly escaped the scene and police have launched a manhunt for him.

The lorry was towed and detained at Port Victoria police station awaiting inspection.
