Four people confirmed dead, more still missing as boat capsizes in Tana River

Search and rescue operations for missing persons after boat capsized in Tana River County is still ongoing.

Two more bodies were retrieved on Monday evening, bring the total number of deceased to four.

The boat capsized on Sunday evening at Kona Punda area while heading to Mororo, Tana River County.

Kenya Red Cross said 23 people had been rescued and are currently receiving medical care at Madogo Hospital.

A search operation for over 15 others who are still missing is ongoing more than 24 hours later.

Bangale Deputy County Commissioner Joseph Kipkorir urged locals to file a missing persons report at the nearest police station.

Due to raging floods occasioned by the ongoing heavy rains, public transport vehicles are dropping off passengers at Madogo.

The passengers are then expected to part with KSh1,500 to travel by boat from Madogo to Garissa Town.
