Four people perished early Saturday morning in a fatal accident along the Nakuru-Eldoret Highway.
According to a police report filed at Salgaa Police Station in Rongai, Nakuru County, the deceased were travelling aboard a Toyota Hiace shuttle under registration KDK 561M.
The vehicle belongs to Eldoret Cross Roads Sacco.
The unfortunate incident occurred at around 3:30am. The passengers were reportedly heading to Nakuru from Eldoret.
However, upon reaching Salgaa, the matatu reportedly rammed into the rear of a trailer, causing severe damage to the vehicle.
The trailer is said to have vanished from the scene moments after the incident and is yet to be traced.
Four people, three females and one male apparently died on the spot. Eight more passengers survived with serious injuries.
The victims were rushed to Nakuru County and referral hospital for treatment while the bodies were transferred to the hospital’s mortuary pending autopsy and identification.
The vehicle was towed to Salgaa Police Station pending inspection.
