Four senior Taita Taveta County officials released on bail after denying charges

Four senior officials of Taita Taveta County who were arrested by EACC over alleged theft of public funds amounting to KSh7 million in the pretext of commemorating First World War have been arraigned at the Mombasa law court.

The four — who include Thomas Jumwa, the current Economic Advisor to Governor Andrew Mwadime; former County Secretary Liverson Mghendi; former Finance Chief Officer Leonard Langat; and Christine Wakera, the former Trade, Tourism and Co-operatives Development chief officer — denied the charges.

Chief Magistrate Alex Ithuku freed Mghendi, Langat and Wakera on a bond of KSh1 million, with an alternative of KSh200,000 cash bail.

Jumwa, on the other hand, was released on a bond of KSh2 million or an alternative of KSh500,000 cash bail.

The case will be mentioned on 7th November 2024.
