Four suspects arrested with stolen police uniforms in Homa Bay

Police in Rachuonyo South Sub-County, Homa Bay County, have apprehended four suspects and seized a stash of stolen police uniforms and ammunition.

The operation, led by Officer Commanding Station(OCS)Kosele, was initiated after reports surfaced about individuals trying to sell police gear in Oyugis Town.

The first arrests included two young men, Jeff Omondi, 18, and Nashon Odwar, 19, who were caught with various police-issued items.

Omondi was caught with two live rounds of ammunition, along with a jungle police hat and trousers.

Meanwhile, Odwar had an Administration Police (AP) jungle jacket and also possessed two live rounds of ammunition.

Odwar managed to escape after being questioned, but Omondi disclosed that the items were provided by Samwel Otieno, 18, who remains at large.

Based on this information, the officers went to Otieno’s home and searched his grandfather’s house, Mr. Jacob Okuku.

what the police discovered

During the search, they discovered a significant cache of security-related items, which included two functional G3 magazines, 41 live rounds of ammunition, three blank rounds of the same caliber, raincoats, military jungle boots, lanyards, and a Maasai sword.

Mr. Okuku stated that the items belonged to his son, APC Robin Ochieng Okuku, who is an Administration Police officer based in Bomet County.

He accused his grandson, Samwel Otieno, of interfering with the equipment.

Both Mr. Okuku and his daughter-in-law, Mrs. Grace Aroko, the officer’s wife, were arrested for questioning and taken into police custody.

In the meantime, the officers successfully located Nashon Odwar, and he was re-arrested.

He was found in possession of the two live rounds of ammunition he had initially been seen with.

During questioning, he confessed to selling an AP smoke jacket to a tuk-tuk driver in Oyugis Town for Ksh 500.

The suspects including Jeff Omondi, Nashon Odwar, Jacob Okuku, and Mrs. Grace Aroko, have been booked at Kosele Police Station, as investigations continue.

The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) in Rachuonyo South has taken over the case and is seeking additional leads, including the arrest of Samwel Otieno and the recovery of any remaining stolen items.
