Francis Kimanzi names provisional Harambee Stars squad for Mapinduzi Cup

Harambee Stars interim coach Francis Kimanzi has named his provisional squad for the upcoming Mapinduzi Cup, scheduled to take place from 3rd to 13th January 2025.

In his first squad in charge, Kimanzi and his technical bench have included a mix of experience and emerging talents. The team is expected to enter residential camp on 28th December 2024.

“This preparation is part of a broader plan to give local players exposure ahead of the African Nations Championship (CHAN) tournament,” the Football Kenya Federation (FKF) says.

In the new arrangements, Kimanzi will be deputised by John Kamau and Zedekiah ‘Zico’ Otieno. Former Kenyan international goalkeeper Arnold Origi has been appointed goalkeeper coach, while Mikael Igediah will oversee fitness technology. Wycliff Makanga and Noel Mandi will serve as the team doctor and physiotherapist, respectively.

“The appointments are temporary as the recruitment process for the official national team coaching staff continues,” FKF adds.

FKF Deputy President McDonald Mariga says the Mapinduzi Cup is key in preparing the team for CHAN.

“The Mapinduzi Cup offers our local boys a perfect opportunity to prepare for the upcoming CHAN tournament, and this is why we have honored the invite. We will give the team all the required support to ensure they are settled and ready to concentrate on their job, which is to play football and carry the Kenyan flag high.”

Kenya will co-host CHAN alongside Uganda and Tanzania from February 1–28, 2025. This tournament will serve as a precursor to the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), also set to be hosted by the East African trio.
