Fredrick Alushula joins AFC Leopards from Kariobangi Sharks on a two-year contract

AFC Leopards have officially announced the signing of right fullback Fredrick Alushula from Football Kenya Premier League (FKF-PL) side Kariobangi Sharks on a two-year contract.

Alushula, who began his FKF-PL career with Sharks in October 2020 after completing high school, made his debut against Kakamega Homeboyz the same year. Over his four-year tenure, he registered three goals and ten assists for the Kariobangi-based side.

He has also represented Kenya at the U-23 level and expressed his eagerness to win titles with AFC Leopards. “I’m happy to join AFC Leopards and look forward to winning trophies with the club. I like the team’s style of play, and there’s a lot of quality within the squad.

Looking at the league table, I believe we have a strong chance of lifting the FKF-PL title this season. The competition among my new teammates will also help me improve as a player,” Alushula said during his unveiling.

When asked about handling the pressure that comes with playing for one of Kenya’s biggest clubs, he remained confident. “If you do the right thing as a player, there will be very little pressure. I strive to work hard and follow the technical bench’s instructions, which will help me manage expectations from the fans.”

Alushula will wear the number 3 jersey and has already linked up with his new teammates at Ingwe’s training base.

AFC Leopards’ latest signing comes just a day after they confirmed the arrival of Ugandan goalkeeper James Ssetuba from Kakamega Homeboyz on a two-year deal. The experienced shot-stopper joined Ingwe on a free transfer following the expiry of his contract.

Meanwhile, FKF Premier League side Bandari FC also reinforced its squad with four new players in a midseason transfer ceremony held on February 17, 2025.

Led by club CEO Tony Kibwana, the coastal club invested Ksh. 2 million in the new additions, headlined by Kenyan international striker John Mark Makwata, who joins from Tanzanian outfit Coastal Union.

Makwata, who has previously played for Kariobangi Sharks, Nairobi City Stars, AFC Leopards, and Kenya Police in the FKF-PL, brings valuable experience, having also featured for Zesco United and Buildcon FC (Zambia), Al Nasr Sporting Club (Kuwait), and Gaborone United (Botswana).

Joining him at Bandari are Dennis Ng’ang’a, a former Gor Mahia defender arriving from Zambia’s Zanaco FC, as well as Ali Halafu from a Division One side and Clifford Ouma, who makes the switch from Nairobi City stars.

Bandari FC also confirmed three new additions to their women’s team, Bandari Queens, who compete in the National Women’s Super League. The club secured the services of defender Euphrasier Shilwatso from Barcelona SC, defender Faida Kwekwe from Uweza, and goalkeeper Valentine Khwaka from Police Bullets.

Nairobi City Stars also responded to key departures by bolstering their squad with four new signings. After losing Mohammad Bajaber to Kenya Police and Clifford Ouma to Bandari, the club has brought in Kevin Juma, Benjamin Mosha, Hansel Ochieng, and Salim Odeka from Gor Mahia, Sofapaka, Kakamega Homeboyz, and Kisumu All Stars, respectively.

The FKF midseason transfer window for the FKF Premier League, FKF National Super League, and FKF Men’s Division One League officially opened on January 31, 2025, and will remain open until Friday, February 28, 2025, at 17:00 hrs, according to a communiqué from the FKF Competitions Department.
