What happened

As he slapped the water with his left arm to celebrate his success, the 18-year-old suddenly appeared to be in a great deal of pain. Realizing the extent of the damage to his shoulder, he pointed at his upper arm and asked for immediate assistance.

His grin was quickly replaced by a grimace as he grabbed his wounded left shoulder.

According to the French newspaper L’Equipe, Fente-Damers suffered a dislocated shoulder.

He went on to appear on the podium in a sling, but his smile returned as he lined up alongside Grousset and Co.
