Fresh twist in Faith Musembi’s murder as main suspect is arrested

A case in which a 19-year-old university girl was found dead in her rented house at Pilot Estate in Thika has taken a fresh twist.

Thika West Sub-County Police Commander Lawrence Muchangi now says that a 25-year-old student from Tom Mboya University is the main suspect behind the killing of Faith Musembi.

According to the police chief, preliminary investigations point to a love gone sour that led to the tragic death of the student whose lifeless body was found by her father Boniface Musembi.

The father had rushed to his daughter’s house following a message sent to them by alleged abductors who were demanding a KSh27,000 ransom for the release of his daughter.

Police believe that the suspect — now in custody at Thika Police Station — is the lover of the slain university student, with reports indicating the two have been in a relationship for close to six years.

“The suspect is a boyfriend to the late who is also known to the parents. After thorough investigations it was revealed that the matter before us was because of what we believe to be unfaithfulness that led to the suspect to kill this girl,” Muchangi told TV47.

As of Monday, May 13 afternoon, investigators were still combing through the crime scene — the rented apartment — in search of more evidence and recording more witnesses account from the neighbours.

The family of the late student is now demanding justice, calling for a speedy investigations to unearth every detail and bring the perpetrator to book.

“We are impressed by the latest development into the matter, but we call upon the police not to leave any stone unturned while investigating this tragic event,” said Mambo Kisekeni, Musembi’s relative.

Autopsy results

An autopsy conducted on the body of the student at General Kago Funeral Home revealed that she died due to excessive bleeding caused by placental abruption.

A second autopsy is scheduled for Thursday, May 16.

Meanwhile, the suspect will be arraigned on Wednesday, May 15 to face murder charges.
