Conrad Gray a.ka. G Money is about to embark on an exciting new chapter, after leaving Homeboyz Radio behind and heading to the UK to join Robbo Ranx Radio. The deal is nearly finalized, and fans can expect an official announcement soon.
Founded in 2014 by the acclaimed DJ Roger Robinson, better known as Robbo Ranx, Robbo Ranx Radio has carved out a niche for itself by celebrating the vibrant rhythms of the Caribbean.
After a stellar twelve-year run at BBC Radio 1Xtra, where he won several Sony Radio Awards, Ranx ventured into the online radio space, bringing his passion for Caribbean sounds to a global audience.
Robbo Ranx Radio took to social media to share the exciting news, stating, “Kenya, we’re in talks with your ambassador G Money … his agent thinks we could do the deal before deadline day.” The buzz around G Money’s move is palpable, and fans are eagerly awaiting confirmation.
G Money, who recently left Homeboyz Radio in June after a remarkable 16-year stint, has expressed his excitement about the new opportunity.
He shared a glimpse of his future workspace on social media, posting a picture of himself in the Robbo Ranx Radio studio with the comment, “What a nice studio. You should see the floor! Shhhh.”
Reflecting on his journey, G Money recalled his arrival in Kenya in 2008. Initially, he was meant to help set up Homeboyz Radio, but fate had other plans.
“I had been on the BBC One Xtra show for about six years and, as life would have it, I met John in London and he told me he was starting a radio station,” he recounted during an episode of the Banter Box podcast. He soon became a key presenter and a significant influence in Kenya’s dancehall scene.
G Money bid farewell to Homeboyz Radio with a poignant message, marking his final show on June 20. “I have been doing radio at Homeboyz Radio for 6,066 days. I have done the morning show for like 16 years. I think it’s time for a mutual revamp,” he reflected.
He continued, “I feel it’s good at this time for the station to be cognizant of the financial and media landscape as it is, to re-invest in talent and refresh.
Adding, “It’s time for me to say to myself that the kid who wanted to do radio all these years ago has been able to do it for 30 years.”
Before his move to Kenya, G Money faced some skepticism from friends. However, his grandmother’s words of encouragement stood out.
She urged him to explore places she would never have the chance to visit herself. Inspired by her support, G Money took the plunge, and if things didn’t pan out, he resolved to return home and try new ventures.
