Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has revealed that retired security officers have volunteered to protect his homes and provide personal security.
This is after the withdrawal of his official team.
Speaking recently on an interview,Gachagua claimed his government-assigned security was reduced.
Following the consecration and installation of Bishop Peter Kimani Ndung’u in Embu County on November 16, 2024.
He explained that his official detail, once comprised of six officers, had dwindled to just two for private security and four stationed at his residence.
Amid allegations of assassination attempts.
Gachagua disclosed that former officers from Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) and Kenya Forest Service (KFS) have stepped forward to guard him voluntarily.
“When they saw what happened to me in Limuru, about 300 people from different places came to offer their help,” he shared.
“These retired officers are protecting my homes, but above all, God is watching over us. He is the head of all security forces.”
Gachagua recounted a harrowing incident on November 28, during a funeral in Limuru, Kiambu County.
Armed attackers disrupted proceedings and targeted his team.
He alleged the attackers, armed with stones and poles, intended to assassinate him.
“In Limuru, I had no security—it was God who protected me,” he said.
“Young men came in, removed tent poles, and began looking for me, shouting gutha mutwe (hit the head).”
He recounted how his car was attacked from all sides, but the selflessness of four young men saved his life.
“They lay on top of me, shielding me from stones and poles. One young man was injured and is now hospitalized,” Gachagua revealed.
The former deputy president attributed these alleged attacks to his outspoken criticism of President William Ruto’s government since his ousting.
Gachagua believes the threats to his life are politically motivated, stemming from his fiery public statements and engagements.
Despite the challenges, he vowed to persist, hinting at a significant political announcement in 2025.
“This is not the end. I am preparing for my next move,” he declared, maintaining a defiant tone amidst mounting adversity.
