Gachagua cries foul on security, Police responds with assurance of safety for everyone

The National Police Service (NPS) has assured all Kenyans, and visitors of their safety and security, following reports of alleged security concerns raised by former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua. The NPS addressed a letter purportedly written by Gachagua regarding a failure by the police to provide him with adequate security.

The Inspector General of Police reaffirmed the NPS’s commitment to promoting and safeguarding national security and ensuring the safety of all persons and property within the country. The statement emphasized that the NPS plays a crucial role in maintaining stability and preventing criminal activities.

Regarding Gachagua’s specific concerns, the NPS advised him to liaise with police officers at all levels to request additional security measures and to notify the police in advance of his movements and public engagements to facilitate proper security planning and coordination.

The NPS emphasized its constitutional obligation under Article 244(c) to uphold human rights and fundamental freedoms and reaffirmed its unwavering commitment to serving all persons without political bias. The statement conveyed the National Police Service remains apolitical.

Director Corporate Communication/Spokesperson Muchiri Nyaga stated that the security situation nationwide remains stable, with proactive, intelligence-led measures in place to prevent and respond to security threats through multi-agency approaches, all while upholding the rule of law and human rights. The Police assures the public that the security situation nationwide remains stable, and proactive measures have been implemented to prevent criminal activities and Police shall dutifully respond to all security needs where and when requested as provided for under the law.

The statement served as a public reassurance of the NPS’s dedication to maintaining law and order and ensuring the safety of all individuals within Kenya, regardless of their political affiliation or status.
