Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua on Monday, October 7 evening confirmed that he will appear before National Assembly in person, to defend himself against several accusations in an impeachment motion against him.
The embattled second in command, while terming the accusations ridiculous and outrageous, said that Kenyans who elected him in office deserve to hear his side of the story.
He, however, urged Members of Parliament to be kind enough to give him ample time to respond to the accusations.
“I have been invited to appear in the National Assembly tomorrow at 5pm. I want to confirm that I will avail myself that time and prosecute my defense for two hours. I trust MPs will be kind enough to allow me to respond in silence.”
Gachagua, in an address to the nation at his official residence in Karen, Nairobi, said that he decided not to be cowed into sending his lawyers alone in the National Assembly, because the accusations against him have no basis, “are sheer propaganda, it is scheme to hound me out office because of other political consideration.”
“I am elected directly by the people of Kenya. On 9th of August 2022, Kenyans woke up early to go and vote in their president and deputy president. 7.2 million decided that Dr William Ruto should be elected as president, and Rigathi Gachagua as the deputy president. I think it’s only fair when MPs decide they want to remove the DP from office, the people who elected Rigathi Gachagua here his side of the story,” Gachagua said.
