Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has denied any involvement in last year’s Anti-Finance Bill protests led by Gen-Z, which led President William Ruto to reject the Bill and make changes in his Kenya Kwanza Government, including the dissolution of his cabinet.
Gachagua stated that while he is not a Gen Z leader, he still supports their fight for a better and just country.
Speaking to journalists on Tuesday, February 4 morning, Gachagua claimed those accusing him of orchestrating the protests are the ones who plotted to remove him from office.
He suggested the allegations were aimed at painting him as a rebel against the Kenya Kwanza government and set the stage for his impeachment.
“I did not lead Gen Z, nor am I their leader, but they are our good children and will play a key role in the 2027 elections,” he said.
He urged the youth to register as voters, stressing that young people will determine the 2027 election.
“The leadership of this country will be determined by Gen Z if they register to vote,” he added.
During the protests, the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) launched an inquiry into Gachagua’s and his allies’ alleged roles in the demonstrations as some of his allies were summoned to record statements.
