‘Gachagua is a slow-punctured politician, he is going nowhere’ – says Mutahi Ngunyi

Political analyst Mutahi Ngunyi has said former deputy president Rigathi Gachagua is a slow-punctured politician, who is going nowhere.

In a statement on Monday February 10, 2025, Ngunyi noted that Gachagua’s announcement on Sunday was a total failure.

“Gachagua is a slow-punctured politician. He is going nowhere. Those who know, know. And they know, as Kibaki would tell us. His Sunday announcement was a total failure. Politicians know when a failure is amongst them. They are not stupid,” Mutahi Ngunyi posted on X.

Mutahi Ngunyi’s remarks emerged a day after Gachagua announced that Mount Kenya region has cut links with President William Ruto and will not support his re-election bid in 2027.

Speaking during an interview at his Wamunyoro home on Sunday evening, Gachagua termed his statement a report on the country’s political climate and the changing dynamics of the vote-rich Mt. Kenya region.

“We, the people of Central Kenya, have cut political ties with President Ruto from today, we will not support him in 2027,” Gachagua declared.

In addition, the former DP announced that the region was withdrawing from President Ruto’s United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party.

“We are done with UDA. Never again will we go to an election without our own political party,” he said.

Gachagua also revealed that he and his allies are in the final stages of forming a new political party, which will be unveiled in May 2025.

“The party is ready, but I am careful not to release the name or finer details too soon to prevent sabotage,” he said.
