Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has said some leaders avoid being seen with him for fear of being targeted.
Speaking during a live Tiktok session on Thursday January 23, 2025, Gachagua noted that people from various sectors, including church leaders, professionals, and businesspeople, reach out to him but hesitate to publicly associate with him.
“The number of people seeing me is growing, but many fear their businesses may be affected.
“The volume of feedback has made it hard to meet my goal of finishing consultations by January 31st,” said Gachagua.
“I had hoped to report by the end of January, but the number of views has made it challenging,” he added.
At the same time, the former DP claimed that many regret joining President Ruto’s UDA party without their own political platform.
“Many think we made a mistake joining the party without our own vehicle. They believe we need to negotiate better,” he explained.
Addressing rumors about endorsements, Gachagua clarified that his meetings don’t mean he’s endorsing anyone.
“I am a people-centered leader. My meetings are not endorsements. The people will decide who runs,” he said.
He stressed that leadership decisions should come from the people, quoting the late Kenneth Matiba – “Let the people decide.”
Meanwhile, Gachagua assured both supporters and critics that his doors are open to all.
He also promised to report on the consultations soon and may ask for more time if needed.
