Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has expressed interest in working with former Prime Minister Raila Odinga in preparations for the 2027 general elections.
Speaking on Wednesday February 26, 2025 during an interview with Musyi FM and other Kamba radio stations, Gachagua said he was willing to include Raila Odinga in his new-found alliance.
“I do not understand Raila’s intentions; it is his choice, depending on whether he wants to be with Ruto or on the side of liberating this country,” said Gachagua.
“Whether Raila supports Ruto or not, we will defeat Ruto’s Kenya Kwanza in 2027. Kenyans have already decided Ruto must go home and want a new government,” he added.
Gachagua’s remarks emerged a day after Raila disclosed that will announce his next political move after a recent closed-door meeting with Ruto at State House, Mombasa.
At the same time, Gachagua acknowledged the growing influence of Gen Z in Kenyan politics, stating that they are the future leaders of the country.
The former DP admitted that although he initially did not support Gen Z, he now agrees with their demands and appreciates their strong stand on issues affecting the nation.
He praised their boldness, saying that Gen Z is fearless, tribeless, and cannot be compromised.
According to Gachagua, these qualities make Kenyan youth the perfect leaders to drive real change in the country.
Additionally, he encouraged young people to register as voters, get their national identity cards, and actively participate in elections to shape the country’s future.
The former DP also emphasised the importance of having a strong political party, using ODM as an example.
He noted that Raila Odinga’s ODM party has remained strong over the years because of proper organization and a loyal support base.
Meanwhile, Gachagua urged parents and older generations to support and mentor young leaders, ensuring they make informed decisions that benefit the country.
“We must hold our children’s hands and guide them in leadership,” he said.
