In a public address on August 23, DP Gachagua trashed the talks taking place, lauding support for the president.
The outspoken politician took aim at Azimio leader Raila Odinga for being a broker of deals only for his own self-interest.
“Nothing will come out of those talks; it’s a waste of time. I am telling you as deputy president of the Republic of Kenya,” said Gachagua.
The DP said Azimio’s leader had already struck a deal with President Ruto when they held talks in Mombasa. The talks were to take his members around in circles and, “there is nothing.” Rigathi pointed.
DP Gachagua was in Machakos, Mwala constituency to attend the funeral service of area Member of Parliament’s mother.
He called on the Kamba nation to pick wisely who to support for better representation.
Consequently, Gachagua went on to share that Odinga had recently sought talks with President Ruto. He said that in their recent talks, he never brought up the Kamba leader or ‘his people’ in the talks.
“Aliongea mambo yake, ya mtoto wake, ya bibi yake na watu yao” (His conversation with the president was about him, his children, his wife, and his people).
The Deputy President interrogated the panel’s agenda, saying there was nothing for the Kamba people.
His statements attracted sharp criticism from parties interested in the talks set to resume on Friday, August 25, 2023, which may see them off to another rocky start.
