Gachagua warns Chief of Defence Forces Kahariri against political involvement

Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has warned Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) General Charles Kahariri against engaging in political matters. He urged Kahariri to focus on his military duties instead.

Speaking during a church service in Naivasha, Gachagua emphasized that the military’s primary role is to protect Kenya from external threats.

He stressed that the military should not be involved in politics, as doing so could harm Kahariri’s reputation and credibility.

“The military’s job is to secure the country, not engage in politics. General Kahariri, do not bring politics into the armed forces. Politics is dangerous and will burn you. Go back to the barracks!” Gachagua stated.

Gachagua’s remarks emerged after General Kahariri advised Kenyans against pushing “the Ruto must go” slogan, saying that it was not good for the country.

His comments come as political tensions rise ahead of the 2027 General Election, with leaders positioning themselves for the contest.

“Ruto Must Go” movement gains momentum

Gachagua also reiterated that the “Ruto Must Go” slogan is not just a protest chant. It is a growing movement aimed at unseating President William Ruto in the next election.

According to the former DP, Ruto’s support has significantly declined. This makes it difficult for him to regain public trust. Gachagua claimed that even military intervention would not be enough to restore the president’s political standing.

Growing political pressure on the Government

As political realignments take shape, Gachagua’s remarks add to the mounting pressure on the Kenya Kwanza administration.

The opposition has intensified efforts to rally support against Ruto’s leadership. This sets the stage for a heated political battle in the coming months.

His statements will likely spark further debate about the role of security agencies in politics and the increasing scrutiny of the government’s performance.
