Gelson Fernandes promoted to Deputy Chief Member Associations Officer at FIFA

Gelson Fernandes has been promoted to Deputy Chief Member Associations Officer while maintaining his current role as Director of Member Associations for Africa.

This promotion comes following the departure of Kenny Jean-Marie, the Chief Member Associations Officer, who is stepping down at the end of the month to pursue new opportunities. Jean-Marie will be succeeded by Elkhan Mammadov.

Additionally, Kevin Lamour has been appointed as FIFA’s new Chief Operating Officer.

Fernandes, a former professional footballer, transitioned into football administration after retiring from playing. His smooth shift from the field to an executive role has been marked by the same passion he showed as a player.

FIFA Secretary General Mattias Grafstrom praised Fernandes, saying, “Gelson Fernandes’ transition from footballer to administrator has been nothing short of remarkable. His positive energy and dedication to football development make him a standout leader within our organisation.”

As the Deputy Chief Member Associations Officer, Fernandes will support the Member Associations Division, working closely with Elkhan Mammadov, the newly appointed Chief Member Associations Officer.

At just 35 years old, Fernandes was previously appointed as Regional Director of FIFA Member Associations for Africa on August 1, 2022, a role he will continue alongside his new responsibilities.
