For decades, George Clooney was the face of silver-screen romance.
But now, he’s closing that chapter.
While promoting his Broadway role in Good Night, and Good Luck on 60 Minutes, the Hollywood icon made it clear—his days of starring in love stories are over.
New chapter for the Hollywood heartthrob
At 63, Clooney isn’t interested in competing with younger leading men.
“Look, I’m 63 years old. I’m not trying to compete with 25-year-old leading men,” he stated.
“That’s not my job. I’m not doing romantic films anymore.”

His last romantic comedy, Ticket to Paradise (2022), saw him reunite with longtime friend Julia Roberts.
The film performed well, grossing $168 million worldwide.
However, Clooney believes his era of sweeping love stories has run its course.
The actor’s career has been defined by unforgettable romance films, from One Fine Day (1996) with Michelle Pfeiffer to Intolerable Cruelty (2003) with Catherine Zeta-Jones.
But as time passes, so do priorities.
End of an era
Clooney’s declaration signals the end of a Hollywood phase that saw him crowned “Sexiest Man Alive” and cast as the ultimate leading man.
But he isn’t the only one who has stepped back from the genre.

Julia Roberts, his Ticket to Paradise co-star, admitted she avoided romantic comedies for nearly two decades.
“People sometimes misconstrue the amount of time that’s gone by that I haven’t done a romantic comedy as my not wanting to do one,” Roberts explained.
“If I had read something that I thought was Notting Hill level of writing or My Best Friend’s Wedding level of madcap fun, I would do it.
They didn’t exist until this movie that I just did that Ol Parker wrote and directed.”
While Hollywood may miss Clooney’s effortless charm in love stories, his career continues to evolve.
Whether on Broadway or behind the camera, he remains a force in entertainment ,just no longer in romantic films.
