Brighton, the giant killers of England, got a taste of their own medicine as they suffered a resounding 6-1 defeat at the hands of a clinical Aston Villa in a lunchtime English Premier League match at Villa Park.
English striker Ollie Watkins found the net three times in this dominant victory, helping Aston Villa achieve a remarkable ten consecutive wins in league matches played at their home ground.
After the game, Watkins expressed his thoughts in a post-match interview, saying, “What a performance. We didn’t perform well in our midweek match, but we bounced back here against a formidable opponent who played some exceptional football. It’s a truly satisfying result.”

In addition to Watkins’ contributions, goals came from Pervis Estupinan (own goal), Jacob Ramsey, and Douglas Luiz, further solidifying Unai Emery’s team’s commanding performance. Ansu Fati, on loan from Barcelona, also scored his first goal for Brighton.
What does the result mean?
Ollie Watkins, who has now scored in four consecutive matches against Brighton, played a key role in this impressive offensive display.
Brighton, on the other hand, has seen their defense breached in 11 consecutive Premier League matches, highlighting their recent struggles at the back.
Aston Villa’s victory marks their remarkable 10th consecutive win in Premier League matches at Villa Park, a streak that began in March.
Only Manchester City, with 13 consecutive home wins, currently holds a longer ongoing streak of home victories in the Premier League.
Villa have already scored three or more goals in a single match on six occasions across all competitions this season, surpassing their total from the previous season, which stood at five.
Notably, this defeat represents the first time Brighton has conceded six or more goals in a top-flight match and the first time in any league match since their 6-0 loss to West Ham in the Championship back in April 2012.
