8-year-old girl loses life in an accident while escorting her sister to school

An 8-year-old girl lost her life in a road accident at Bilibili area along the Webuye-Kimilili highway on Monday, 15/01/2024.

According to the police report, the deceased was escorting her elder sister who was supposed to join Form One at Lugulu Girls High School when she met her tragic death.

Witnesses disclosed that the accident involved a private vehicle and a lorry heading in opposite directions, leaving five passengers injured.

The five individuals who were injured during the accident are receiving treatment at Kimilili Hospital.

Meanwhile, the body of the deceased has been taken to Kiminini Cottage Hospital Mortuary.

Mombasa Road accident

Elsewhere, a minor is receiving treatment for an accident that occurred along the Nairobi-Mombasa Highway in Machakos County on Saturday January 13.

According to the report from Athi River South sub county police commander Jos Mudavadi, the incident happened in the Lukenya area of Athi River sub county.

“The incident occurred at about 2.30 pm along the Nairobi-Mombasa Highway at Lukenya area. It involved a minibus,” Mudavadi said.

Mudavadi, however, mentioned that the bus was moving towards Mombasa when the accident occurred.

“On reaching the location of the accident, the driver lost control of the vehicle, causing it to rest on its right side,” Mudavadi said.

Twenty-one people sustained injuries during the accident, including the driver who suffered a cut to his left hand.

The victims were rushed to Machakos Level 5 hospital and Itimboni health center, where they are receiving treatment.

Accidents Statistics

According to the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA), 4,139 people lost their lives due to road accidents in 2023, which is a decrease compared to the 4,157 deaths recorded in the previous year.
