Goals galore, VAR on opening day of Cleo Malalah Super Cup

The epic Cleo Malalah Super Cup tournament finals kicked off with a bang at the Mumias Sports Complex on Boxing Day.

Football fans from all over Western region and the country at large, converging in Kakamega County, were treated to goals galore from the word go.

Three teams scored a combined 26 goals.

Day 1 results

In other results, two-time champions Lirhembe Arsenal from Ikolomani, Kakamega County suffered a shocking 2-0 defeat in the hands of Div2 Western Zone A side Obucuun Border from Teso South, Busia County.

Jovial fans enjoying matches during Day 1 of the Cleo Malalah Super Cup at Mumias Sports Complex on Boxing Day. The 5th edition has seen the introduction of Video Assistant Referee (VAR) and large screens on the stadia for fair officiating and better experience for the fans.

The tournament has attracted a total of 48 teams divided into 12 pools of four. Each group leaders and four best losers qualify for the Round of 16 stage.

This year’s edition saw the introduction of the Video Assistant Referee (VAR) and large stadium screens to enhance fair officiating and overall entertainment for fans.

KSh3 million prize money

KSh3 million is at stake for the winners of this football bonanza.

The runners-up will not leave empty-handed either, pocketing KSh1.5 million, while the second runners-up will take home KSh1 million.

The fourth-placed team will receive KSh500,000 cash reward.

All the participating teas have received branded Cleo Malala kits and balls.

Scouts from the Kenya Sports Academy (KSA), FKF Premier League and National Super League clubs are following the tournament to spot talent in the next 5 days.
