Gold miner electrocuted to death in Siaya

A gold miner was on Sunday January 14, electrocuted to death in Alego/Usonga Sub County, Siaya County.

The miner died on spot during the tragic incident at a gold mine in Pap Ka’Mboha village.

The miner, identified as Vincent Odhiambo lost his life at the mine where he had been working as a machine operator.

Siaya County Police Commander Cleti Kimaiyo confirmed the incident, stating that the incident was reported by Bar-Ding sub-location Assistant Chief Musa Okello.

This is one of the many electrocution cases reported in the area.

The body was retrieved by members of the public before it was moved to Siaya County Referral Hospital mortuary awaiting postmortem.

Many cases of workers being electrocuted in area are mainly linked to faulty electrical equipment.

Migori County incident

Residents in Migori County are searching for bodies of three gold miners feared dead while prospecting gold at Kurutyange mines.

The miners died on Thursday last week, after drowning when a water pump system they were using failed.

On October 23, 2023 other two gold miners lost their lives when the walls of an underground gold mine suddenly caved in on them in Ikolomani, Kakamega County.

According one of the miners miner Evans Museve, one of the victims, who was a foreman, entered the mine to assess a hole’s formation following a dewatering operation and a decrease in the water table.

When he failed to return as expected, two other miners ventured in to check on their colleague as they all perished in the tunnel.
