Tiger Woods has announced the heartbreaking passing of his beloved mother, Kultida Woods, at the age of 80.
“It is with heartfelt sadness that I want to share that my dear mother, Kultida Woods, passed away early this morning,” he wrote on social media alongside a cherished photo of her. “My Mom was a force of nature all her own, her spirit was simply undeniable.”
The golf icon, known for his resilience on and off the course, expressed deep gratitude for his mother’s unwavering support throughout his life.
“She was my biggest fan, greatest supporter; without her, none of my personal achievements would have been possible,” he shared.
“She was loved by so many, but especially by her two grandchildren, Sam and Charlie.
Thank you all for your support, prayers, and privacy at this difficult time for me and my family. Love you, Mom.”
Unique bond
Woods has long credited his mother for shaping his career and personal strength.
One of their most enduring traditions is his iconic red Sunday attire, a superstition that began in his early years as a golfer.
“My mom thought that being born a Capricorn, red was my power color,” he once revealed.
In his junior golf days, he tested the theory by wearing blue instead of red—only to see his winning streak falter.
“I then switched back to red, and I had a lot more success,” he recalled.
This led to a special agreement between them:
“I told her, ‘OK, Mom, I’ll make a deal with you. I’ll wear red on the last round of big events.’ She said, ‘Fine, just wear it the last day.'”
Woods did not disclose the cause of her passing but reflected on the profound impact she had on his life.
Strength and legacy
Now, as he mourns the loss of his mother, Woods carries on the lessons of resilience, discipline, and love that both his parents instilled in him—forever shaping the man he has become.
