Goons invade home of senior politician in Bungoma

Police are investigating an incident where suspected goons invaded the home of Zachariah Barasa, a politician in Kanduyi, Bungoma County on Sunday night of February 25, 2024.

The alleged hired goons burned the gate of Barasa, during the night attack but nobody was injured during the incident. 

According to the police, the motive of the attack is still unknown but they have intensified investigations to establish the real cause of the attack as well as arresting suspects involved.

Barasa is among leaders who were opposing the ongoing demolitions in Bungoma town in preparations for the national Madaraka Day celebrations in the county on June 1.

Demolitions were going on around Masinde Muliro Stadium Kanduyi, which is set to host this year’s Madaraka Day celebrations.

President William Ruto will lead Kenyans and other senior government officials during the Madaraka Day celebrations in Bungoma.

The demolition exercise was being organized by the Ministry of Interior and National Administration in collaboration with the department of Lands and Urban Planning in Bungoma County.

Several buildings and business structures have been brought down to create space for expanding the road to the stadium.

According to the county government, Kanduyi stadium is expected to host over 20,000 Kenyans during the national event on June 1, 2024.

Speaking when he visited Kanduyi stadium recently, Sports cabinet secretary Ababu Namwamba disclosed that the stadium has also been selected for hosting (African Nations Championships (CHAN) games in 2024.
