The Ministry of Education has launched a probe to find out school principals who are asking parents for money to admit their children to Junior Secondary School JSS despite the government directive.
Education Cabinet Secretary Ezekiel Machogu has announced a that the ministry has formed a task force comprising 10 units that will monitors School JSS principals behavior across the country
According to Machogu the task force will visit the 28,000 schools to ensure compliance with the directive that all grade six learners transition to Junior Secondary schools without any admission fees.
βIn addition to the directive we issued to the county directors of education, we have formed a team that will move around the country to monitor the transition. The team will investigate if any teachers are frustrating the transition by charging parents or making other demands,β stated CS Machogu.
βI can assure you that I will not tolerate a few individuals who do not want to follow the directive. Should you be found charging parents for JSS admission, you will have to go home,β the minister said.
The Cabinet Secretary reiterated that the government has disbursed sufficient funds (Sh 7.6 billion) to cater for Junior Secondary School JSS learners, emphasizing that no parent should be charged for form one admission.
Any teacher found demanding money from parents would face dismissal.
CS Machogu had earlier warned parents against paying any amount of money for admitting their children to schools.
