Government provides status update on Talanta Stadium construction

The much-anticipated Talanta Stadium is on track to be ready for use by early 2026, with construction currently 40% complete, according to a recent Cabinet dispatch.

The 60,000-seater stadium, located at Jamhuri Park, Nairobi, is set to become Kenya’s largest sports facility, underscoring the government’s commitment to modernizing sports infrastructure.

The construction works of the stadium began in March 2024 and is set to be completed in December 2025.

“The Cabinet was also briefed on the progress of the Talanta Hela Stadium at Jamhuri Park, Nairobi, which is now 40% complete. Once finished, the stadium will be Kenya’s largest, with the government aiming to complete it by the end of this year.” – Cabinet Communiqué

A Key Venue for Major Tournaments

Talanta Stadium is one of three key venues earmarked to host major continental tournaments: 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN) and the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON)

Kenya will co-host AFCON 2027 alongside Uganda and Tanzania, marking a historic moment for East African football.

Meanwhile, Kasarani Stadium and Nyayo Stadium are also undergoing renovations in preparation for CHAN 2024, which has been postponed to August 2024.
