Kisii Governor Simba Arati on Monday, April 15 lodged a complaint at Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) Headquarters.
Accompanied by his lawyers, Senior Counsels James Orengo and Otiende Amollo, Governor Arati wants the DCI to investigate what he terms as an illegal plot by the CCIO Kisii to arrest him.
According to documents seen by TV47 Digital, Governor Arati claims there is a plot to plant weapons at his residence in Kisii and in various homes of his supporters.
Orengo told journalists that they have submitted to the DCI headquarters an audio recording in which the Kisii CCIO is allegedly heard stating that the police will buy the weapons, obtain search warrants, enter the residences, plant the weapons and arrest using the planted weapons as exhibits in mounting charges before court of law.
“We have given a copy of that clip to the police where a CCIO in Kisii is recorded giving instructions and insights into how guns, firearms and other things are going to be planted on governor Arati,” said Orengo.
In his complaint, Arati says that this plot was to be fulfilled by the police ensuring that his security officers are withdrawn.
“It is a unique complaint. Governor Arati has lodged a complaint with the DCI against the DCI. They have assured us that there will be action so we wait to see that action because the alternative would be to take the law into our own hands,” Amollo said on his part.
The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) has regretted what it terms of “continued mistreatment and harassment” of Governor Arati by the National Government and the police.
“It is regrettable that the government is quiet on this whole matter. The ODM party takes note of the recent telephone conversation of a senior police officer in the DCI_Kenya that was recorded and has been circulating in the media. We demand that Hon. Arati be accorded maximum security as required by law and action taken against the perpetrators of the illegal plans and threats to his life,” the part said in a statement.
