Governor Cecily Mbarire denies reports 5 babies died at Embu Level 5 Hospital after power blackout

Embu Governor has dismissed allegations by activist Boniface Mwangi that five babies died at Embu Level 5 Hospital as a result of Friday night’s nationwide power outage.

Governor Mbarire says that Boniface Mwangi’s claims are not only misleading but also non-factual.

According to data provided by the county boss, only one premature baby (born at 21 weeks) succumbed in the last 48 hours at Embu Level 5 Hospital.

Activist Boniface Mwangi had claimed that five infants had died at Embu Level 5 Hospital folloeing the countrywide power outage on Friday, August 25 night.

“There were 20 deliveries among them 8 C/Ss. All the babies are in absolute good health,” Governor Mbarire says.

She adds that the facility has five standby generators which are functional, insisting that countrywide power blackout did not interfere with hospital operations.

“The public is therefore advised to ignore and disregard such misleading and alarming posts that are not backed by facts. We invite Boniface Mwangi to come or get in touch with the Department of Health to verify this information,” she adds.
