President William Ruto is yet again set to visit Luo-Nyanza region, the backyard of his political nemesis – ODM leader Raila Odinga.
In what is dubbed a ‘development tour’, President Ruto is expected to launch the construction of Homa Bay Pier on Wednesday, October 4.
This is President Ruto’s fourth visit to Luo-Nyanza region, specifically Homa Bay County, since his election on August 9 2022.
In his first to Homa Bay, He attended a prayer service at Africa Inland Church in Homa Bay town on October 2, 2022 – less than two months after being elected.
His second was on the launch of constructing affordable housing project in Homa Bay town in January 2023.
The third visit came in July 2023 when he attended the prayer and thanks giving ceremony of Interior PS Raymond Omollo at Kanyipir village in Karachuonyo Constituency.
CS Owalo, PS Omollo confirms Ruto’s visit
The ICT and Digital Economy Cabinet Secretary Eliud Owalo and the Interior Principal Secretary Raymond Omollo have since confirmed the President’s visit.
Speaking when they inspected the state of piers in Homa Bay County, the two senior government officials said the President’s visit is anchored on implementation of development projects.
PS Omollo said the Government had set aside about KSh2 billion towards boosting blue economy through Lake Victoria in Nyanza region.
These include construction of Homa Bay, Kendu Bay, Mbita and Asembo Bay piers and purchase of a ship worth KSh600m that will be operation in Lake Victoria.
“The government will spend KSh2billion for improving blue economy activities in Lake Victoria and that is a sign that it is ready to transform lives of Nyanza people,” Dr Omollo said.
Governor Gladys Wanga welcomes Ruto
Homa Bay Governor Gladys Wanga, who accompanied the two state officials, said she is welcoming President Ruto to the county for the sake of development.
“I am an ODM governor but development unites us. When it comes to development, I work with the government but when it comes to politics, I will work with my party leader Raila Odinga,” Wanga said.
She lauded the piers project, underscoring how they will spur the county’s economy.
“These piers will promote business and other economic activities in this county,” Wanga said.
