Kiambu Governor Kimani Wamatangi has responded to Members of County Assembly (MCAs) who threatened to impeach him over incompetence.
Responding to the MCAs a few hours after their threat, Governor Wamatangi accused the MCAs of playing petty politics at the expense of Kiambu residents.
According to Wamatangi, he is solely focused on delivering his campaign pledges to the Kiambu electorate.
He has seemingly extended an olive branch to county leaders who have the interest of residents at heart to join him in realising his development agenda.
“Mimi nataka kufanya kazi na viongozi ambao wanataka kufanya kazi. Kama ni hawa MCAs yule ambaye roho yake iko na watu wake, na anajua haja yake ni kusaidia wananchi aje tufanye kazi. Na yule ambaye hajajitambu na anataka siasa, acha aendelee na siasa,” the governor said.
Impeachment motion
Led by Limuru East MCA Paul Macharia, the leaders are accusing Governor Wamatangi of incompetence, poor leadership, and inability to oversee county development.
According to the MCAs, Kiambu residents voted them in to legislate, oversight, and represent them in the county assembly, insisting that the county boss should respect that.
Karuri Ward MCA Peter Wainaina alias Boxer urged Governor Wamatangi to pump more funds into development projects across the county.
This, Wainaina says, will enable the Kiambu electorate to access quality services near their locales.
In addition, Githiga MCA Ruth Waithera implored Governor Wamatangi to fully constitute his government by appointing chief officers in all departments.
Waithera – accusing the governor of being a lone ranger – says this move will improve the performance of his government.
