Governor Ndeti orders promotion of 776 staff, scraps lowest job group

Governor Wavinya Ndeti has directed the County Public Service to promote 776 staff currently serving in the lowest job group in Kenya’s civil service hierarchy.

In a bold move, Governor Ndeti has scrapped the lowest job group (job group A) and ordered for the promotion of all the staff members to job group B.

While engaging Devolution department staff during a policy sensitization forum, Ndeti issued the directive to the public service board to fast track the promotion of 1,899 staff in all the departments by July 1st 2025.

“It was painful to learn that some of our staff members have gone for more than 10 years without a single promotion, it is not right… why don’t people fear God,” quipped Governor Wavinya.

Eighty-six (86) members of staff who are due to retire will benefit from the envisaged promotion plan. As at 1st of July 2025, a total of 512 staff members who had not moved an inch in their career ladder for more than 10 years will be promoted.

About 82 staff members who have stagnated for the last 9 years will also taste the fruits of growth in their career. Another 100 members of staff members had stagnated for 8 years and an extra 222 staff members for had stagnated for 7 years will also have the privilege to move up the career ladder.

Restoring dignity, creating order, streamlining public service and offering support to staff members to grow in their careers is part of the larger vision by Governor Wavinya’s administration to promote equity and fairness in government operations.

Deputy Governor Francis Mwangangi has cautioned staff members against division. “Let us rally behind our governor and support her vision, because where there is unity God commands a blessing.”

County Public Service Board Chairperson Albanus Mutisya said the board is addressing concerns of some workers who claim that they have not been paid for two years. “We met the affected staff on December 18th 2024 and we are diligently pursuing the matter to ensure all is resolved amicably,” said Mutisya.

Devolution department staff members have been urged to shun politics and focus on their assigned roles.
