Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja has announced that construction work on the long-delayed Woodley Stadium will soon resume, following the appointment of a new contractor.
The project had stalled due to ongoing legal disputes with the initial contractor, who has since been dismissed.
Speaking on Saturday, August 10 after meeting with traders at Toi Market, Governor Sakaja expressed his commitment to ensuring the project moves forward without further delays. “We have brought in a new contractor and dismissed the previous one who was not meeting expectations. Now, you will see progress,” he assured.
The Governor also emphasized the importance of involving the local community in the construction process, particularly the youth. “Youths in this area will get the chance to work at the stadium, and we will provide them with jobs as soon as the project starts,” Sakaja added, highlighting the job opportunities this development will bring to the area.
Woodley Stadium is part of a broader initiative by the county government to enhance sports infrastructure in Nairobi. This project joins others like the ongoing construction of Kihumbuini Stadium, which began in June. The county government’s investment in these facilities is seen as a crucial step toward nurturing local talent and providing modern sports venues for the city’s residents.
Governor Sakaja’s confirmation brings hope to the community, which has been eagerly awaiting the completion of the stadium. The resumption of work at Woodley Stadium is expected to not only provide much-needed recreational space but also boost the local economy through job creation and increased commercial activity.
The Governor did not specify a timeline for the completion of the project but assured that with the new contractor in place, progress would be swift.
Local traders and residents have welcomed the news, expressing optimism that the project will finally be completed, offering both sporting facilities and economic opportunities for the area.
