In an event set to energize the City, Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja will host reggae icon Burning Spear at Uhuru Park on Saturday, November 2, 2024 as part of the artist’s One People Africa Tour.
The concert, organized in partnership with the popular reggae group Dohty Family, marks the first major event at the park since its extensive renovation.
Running from 12:00 PM to 6:00 PM, the free-entry concert invites Nairobians and visitors alike to enjoy an immersive day of live reggae music, unity, and celebration.
Governor Sakaja, an advocate for revamping public spaces in Nairobi, sees this event as an opportunity to establish Uhuru Park as a central venue for cultural gatherings and public festivities.
“This is more than just a concert; it’s a celebration of Nairobi’s rich heritage and a symbol of our commitment to restoring the city’s public spaces,” said Sakaja. He emphasized that hosting Burning Spear, known for his timeless messages of unity and resilience, was an ideal way to commemorate this landmark occasion.
The revamped Uhuru Park now boasts a modern, safe, and beautifully landscaped setting designed to host a variety of events, from concerts to festivals, catering to families, youth, and tourists alike. After months of refurbishment, the park is poised to become a vibrant cultural hub.
With hits like Marcus Garvey and Slavery Days, Burning Spear has captivated generations with his music advocating African unity and justice. His performance at Uhuru Park is expected to draw thousands of fans, making it a significant moment in Nairobi’s history.
As residents and visitors gather to experience Burning Spear’s iconic sound, this event celebrates not only the rebirth of a beloved city landmark but also embodies a renewed spirit of unity and optimism at the heart of Kenya’s capital.
