Nairobi Governor Sakaja Johnson has emphasized the urgent need to streamline business registration processes to save time and improve the ease of doing business in Kenya.
Speaking during a stakeholder engagement forum on enhancing the business environment for the private sector, held at the Office of Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi, Sakaja highlighted the success of the Unified Business Permit (UBP) initiative.
The UBP, introduced under Sakaja’s leadership a year ago, has significantly improved service delivery for businesses operating in Nairobi.
The governor noted that simplifying bureaucratic processes is crucial to fostering economic growth and ensuring Kenya remains competitive for investors.
In his capacity as a representative of the Council of Governors, Sakaja also called for greater collaboration between the private sector and both levels of government to address challenges in the business landscape.
He urged counties to initiate discussions on levies imposed on cross-county trade, which he described as a hindrance to seamless commerce.
“This conversation is long overdue. We need to create a business environment where entrepreneurs and investors can thrive without unnecessary barriers,” Sakaja stated.
The forum, attended by key stakeholders, aimed to explore ways to lower the cost of doing business while creating a more conducive environment for private-sector growth.
