Governor Sakaja retains Dishi na County school feeding program

Governor Johnson Sakaja has assured parents in Nairobi that the Dishi na County school feeding program will not be canceled.

His assurance comes after the government planned to do away with the National school feeding program during the audit meeting on May,6, 2024.

“Nairobi parents and children should not worry. Dishi na County school feeding Program remains on,” Sakaja said.

Producing close to 200,000 meals per day for an enrollment of 360,000 children, there seems to be a challenge as the National Treasury has proposed to scrap the feeding program in the upcoming budget.

Despite this, basic Education PS Belio Kipsang emphasized the importance of retaining the meal program for the success of school-going children.

“The biggest challenge we are facing is that the whole budget has been removed, those of us who take three meals a day might not know the feeling of what happens when a child does not have a meal in certain parts of this country,” Kipsang said.

He also added that it’s incredibly important to ensure that every learner has access to education, and providing nutritious meals plays a significant part in achieving that.

The Basic Education PS has made a heartfelt appeal for the reinstatement of the school feeding budget.
