Governor Sakaja warns against divisive politics in resurfaced video

A video of Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja has resurfaced online, months after its recording, in which he warns leaders against engaging in divisive politics.

In the video, Sakaja emphasizes the importance of unity and cautions that leaders who oppose the collaboration between President William Ruto and Raila Odinga will be embarrassed when they eventually see them shaking hands.

Governor Sakaja, known for his ” Siasa Safi” slogan, highlights the need for mutual respect, stating, “Baba should be respected the same as President Ruto. Those who have been trading in divisive politics will be shamed if they work together.”

Despite being from a member of the United Democratic Alliance (UDA), Sakaja has successfully managed to work with a majority of Members of County Assembly (MCAs) from the Azimio coalition.

He frequently states that cooperation is essential for the smooth running of Nairobi’s affairs. “We can’t work without Azimio in Nairobi. For me to pass a finance bill, I need them, and that’s why I work with them,” Sakaja explains.

Earlier this year, Sakaja faced criticism for meeting with ODM leaders. His consistent stance on the necessity of ending divisive politics and working together has gained attention, especially after Raila Odinga’s allies were nominated by President Ruto for cabinet positions.

On Wednesday, July 24, President Ruto nominatedĀ ODMĀ Deputy Leaders Hassan Joho and Wycliffe Oparanya, ODM Chairperson John Mbadi and Minority Leader Opiyo Wandayi to Cabinet.
