Gov’t releases KSh2.095 billion Inua Jamii cash; payments start today

The government has released funds for the January 2024 payments of the Inua Jamii Cash Transfer programme.

The Ministry of Labour and Social Protection says it released KSh2,089,844,000 on Friday, February 2 for January payment to beneficiaries enrolled in the programme.

Additionally, the Ministry says it released KSh5.93 million for Nutrition Improvement through Cash and Health Education (NICHE), a complimentary programme of the Inua Jamii.

“Payment commences today, 7th February 2024,” the Ministry says, in a statement seen by TV47 Digital.

M-Pesa payments

Following a presidential directive, Inua Jamii beneficiaries will be receiving their stipends through M-Pesa.

“This will start with Orphans and Vulnerable Children (CT-OVC) and Persons with Severe Disabilities (PWSD) caregivers. The caregivers will enroll for M-Pesa payment by dialing *222# using their registered M-Pesa phone numbers,” the Ministry says.

So far, 207,000 beneficiaries have enrolled for the M-Pesa payment and have received their December payment through M-Pesa.

“The Ministry notes that there are around 100,000 beneficiaries who are yet to enroll through *222#. “This caregivers will be paid through the bank account for the last time and they have only this month to enroll to the M-Pesa payment. The caregivers for CTOVC and PWsD MUST register to continue receiving their Inua Jamii stipends,” the Ministry asserts.
