Granit Xhaka on why he left Arsenal: ‘too much pressure’

Granit Xhaka has laid bare his reason for leaving Arsenal for German side Bayer Leverkusen during the summer transfer window.

During his seven-year stint at the Emirate, the midfielder had a public dispute with the club’s fans crowd, however, he played a crucial role for Mikel Arteta last season.

Arsenal’s 2022/23 campaign saw Xhaka deliver his most remarkable season in England, scoring seven goals in the Premier League and contributing seven assists as well.

During an interview, the Swiss indicated that he can work in peace at Leverkusen.

He stated that he believed his time at Arsenal had come to an end, so he chose to depart.

“You can work in peace at Leverkusen”. said Granit

“Here there’s no chaos, other clubs are more in focus. At Arsenal the pressure is different. But we have high ambitions as we’ve enormous potential in the team”, He added.

The Swiss international went on to talk further about his relationship with the former boss Mikel Arteta.

Xhaka acknowledged that there are similarities between Arsenal boss Artetea and his current boss at Bayer Leverkusen manager Xabi Alonso.

“Mikel is incredible, not only as a coach, and I think Xabi is on the same line. 

“They have a very similar philosophy,’ he added

Xhaka aims to make a meaningful contribution to the Bundesliga side’s midfield following his arrival this summer.

Alonso’s team secured a commendable 6th-place finish in the last season, and they are eager to advance further in the Europa League next season.

Arsenal acted swiftly to fill the midfielder’s void by acquiring Declan Rice from West Ham for £105 million, in addition to bringing in former Leverkusen player Kai Havertz.
