A General Service Unit (GSU) officer who was on Wednesday, June 5 arrested in Malindi, Kilifi County, in possession of canabis sativa (bhang) has been arraigned.
Abderehman Kassim Hussein — arrested by a multi-agency security team manning Sabaki Bridge vehicle checkpoint — was on Thursday, June 6 arraigned before the Malindi Law Courts.
The GSU officer pleaded not guilty to charges of being found in possession of a narcotic substance.
Hussein was released on a bond of KSh500,000, with no option of cash bail.
On the fateful day, a report filed at Malindi Police Station says that the multi-agency team stopped a Toyota Probox (registration number KDD 253T) vehicle which had passengers heading to Lamu.

“Passengers were ordered to alight with their luggage for security check. Upon searching the luggage belonging to one Abderehman Kassim Hussein, five cello-taped packages of dry plant suspected to be cannabis sativa were recovered,” the police report reads in part.
The officers also recovered a certificate of appointment of service from Hussein’s luggage.
It was later established that the suspect is a police officer, attached to GSU, based at Minjila in Tana Delta.
The case will be mentioned on June 20, 2024.
