Guard charged with theft of radios and speakers worth Ksh300,000

A 26-year-old night guard, Edwin Omongo, was recently charged in a Nairobi court for allegedly stealing car music systems, including radios, amplifiers, and Bluetooth devices, from a garage.

Omongo was accused of taking the items from six vehicles parked at a garage in Garden City.

According to court documents, Desmond Oguda Akello, the garage owner, first became aware of the theft when two clients reported missing radios from their cars.

Concerned, Akello visited the garage and questioned Omongo, who reassured him that no incidents had occurred.

However, Akello’s suspicion grew, and he contacted the manager and supervisor to investigate further.

Upon inspecting the other vehicles, they discovered that six cars, including a Toyota Prado, Mercedes Benz, BMW, and Honda Stream, had their music systems stolen.

The stolen equipment included amplifiers, mid-range speakers, Android, Sony, and Kenwood Bluetooth radios, along with a Pioneer screen.

The total value of the stolen items amounted to Ksh300,000.

CCTV footage revealed Omongo allowing a stranger into the garage around 9:30 p.m. that night.

The footage later showed the individual leaving at 5 a.m. with a bag, raising suspicions.

After the incident, Omongo failed to return to work for 10 days.

On September 2, he contacted Akello, informing him of his intent to return to his night shift that evening.

Akello alerted the authorities, and Omongo was arrested following investigations.

Despite the evidence, including the CCTV footage, Omongo denied the charges in court.

The case has been scheduled for trial on May 22 of next year, where the facts will be presented, and Omongo will have the opportunity to defend himself.
