FC Barcelona has appointed German Hansi Flick as the club’s new coach following the sacking of Xavi Hernandez.
The 59-year-old will begin his duties when the 2024/25 La Liga season kicks off.
The agreement between Flick and FC Barcelona is complete, worked out, and approved by his agent Pini Zahavi on a two-year deal.
His contract will run until 2026. It is understood that Flick will bring two German assistants as part of his staff.
The decision to sack Xavi comes a month after Barcelona persuaded him to stay on as manager after he initially planned to leave at the end of this campaign.
Earlier on FC Barcelona released a statement indicating that manager Xavi Hernandez will not be in charge of the club’s first team when the 2024/25 season kicks off.
The announcement came after a meeting attended by the club’s president, Joan Laporta, sporting vice-president Rafa Yuste, director of sport Anderson Luís de Souza (Deco), Xavi, Òscar Hernández, and Sergio Alegre.
The statement by Barcelona read; “FC Barcelona wishes to thank Xavi for his work as a coach, as well as for his inimitable career as a player and as team captain and wishes him every future success in the world. Xavi Hernández will be coaching the team for the last time in Sunday’s game away to Sevilla.”
