Turkish football giants Beşiktaş have officially announced the signing of Cynthia Shilwatso Musungu to their women’s football team.
Turkish Women’s Football Super League club Beşiktaş confirmed this on their official website. Beşiktaş sits 5th in the 2024-2024 season of the Turkish Premier League.
She is set to debut with the club when they face Turkish league leaders Fernabache.
“We welcome Shilwatso Musungu to Beşiktaş. We wish her great success as she embarks on this exciting new chapter with our team, wearing the proud Beşiktaş jersey,” said the club through their official website.
Cynthia’s football journey.
Cynthia played for the dominant Vihiga Queens in the FKF Women’s Premier League, winning three titles with the Queens.
Her outstanding performance at Vihiga caught the eye of Spanish side EDF Logroño; she signed, becoming one of the few Kenyan women footballers to grace European markets.
She later moved to Ukrainian club Kryvbas Women in 2023, where she scored 7 goals in 16 appearances.
Cynthia later parted ways with Kryvbas after suffering a season-ending injury.
Shilwatso returned to Kenya but kept her recovery in progress, even training with the Mathare Women Football Club until her signing with the Turks.
National Duties
During the 2018 Africa Women’s Cup of Nations qualifying campaign, Shilwatso debuted for the Kenya Women’s National Team.
Her standout performances at the 2019 CECAFA Senior Women’s Challenge Cup in Tanzania helped elevate her and the team to international prominence, as they secured their first-ever regional title.
Fans remember her crucial goal in last year’s WAFCON qualifier against Cameroon at Nyayo Stadium when her second-half goal tied the first-leg score and resulted in Kenya’s thrilling 4-3 penalty win.
